My first blog was written in April, 2007 without much consistency. And as you can see it has been over a year since I last posted anything. Well, a lot has happened in the last year since that post. The most significant and difficult was the passing of my mother. I have always heard that it is very difficult for a woman when she loses her mother. THAT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!
My mother was 16 years old when she married my father (he was 17) and she had 3 children by the time she was 21. She was a stay at home mom and one of the greatest influences in my life. Her love and encouragement through the years has helped in shaping me into the woman that I am today. Since her passing, I have been doing a lot of soul searching, inner reflection, realizing the many ways I am like my mother, both good and bad. Yes, we can learn both from our mothers. But the greatest thing I learned from my mother was her ability to love me for who I was. She encouraged me in my hopes and dreams, prayed for me and knew when it was time to let go and allow me to live on my own, trusting that God would have His watchful eye on me.
I love you mom, you were the best!
What's your definition of home?
Submitted by NayNay72
Home is where the heart is!
Home is a place where you are loved for the unique individual that you are.
Home is where you feel safe.
Home is where you are loved, encouraged, corrected and held accountable.
Home is where my dog lives.
Home is where my children grew up and made sure there was never a dull moment.
Home is where I laugh and cry.
Home will one day be in Heaven! Oh what a glorious day that will be!
Which side of your family do you resemble more?
My dad's side. And my children all resemble my side as they are all georgeous and have two different dads, so they must get their goodlooks from their mom! Ha! Ha!
What is something that can always make you feel better?
Submitted by meehshell
Going to the beach always makes me feel better. Just this past week I had been a little down and by Friday I was really sad. I went to the beach the next day with my sister and had a wonderful time and ended up laughing and feeling giddy. I love to laugh!
What compliment are you most often given?
You don't look your age. You look so young, I can't believe you have had 5 children and that you are a grandmother.
What is the worst date you've ever been on?
The worst date I've ever been on was when I was 19 years old and this guy I had dated only a couple of times asked me to go see a movie with him. He took me to a drive in movie (If you don't know what a drive-in movie is you can watch the movie Grease to see one). Anyway, he takes me to the movie and as soon as we get there he says "Let's get in the back seat!". Well, I am not that kind of girl so I said' NO, I am not getting in the back seat!" He got mad, left the car, went to the snack bar and brought back food for himself, sat in the car and ate it all and then looked at me and said "lets go". Which was fine with me and I had him take me home. Needless to say we never dated again.
What's your favorite kind of homemade cookie?
My favorite homemade cookie is Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies.
The recipe can be found on the back of the Toll House Semi-sweet morsel bag.
I like to add pecans and coconut.
Another favorite that is fun and easy to make is Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies. You take a Chocolate Cake Mix, add the eggs and oil, stir to mix, add baking M&Ms or chocolate chips and you have cookie batter. Drop by tablespoonfuls on a baking sheet. You bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes (no more, no less - they burn easily). Let sit for about a minute before removing from the cookie sheet. Makes about 3 dozen. Will stay fresh longest if stored in an air tight container.
Show us what you're thankful for.
My Heavenly Father who has given me the greatest gift of all which is eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ! Without whom I would not have anything else to be thankful for!
I am thankful for my adorable grandchildren, Skyler Elizabeth and Jacob Noah. They are fun, sweet, loving and they know how to make me laugh and remind me of the importance of being carefree and not letting the worlds troubles bog me down.
I am thankful for my children whom I love more than life itself: Sean who married Joy and who gave me Skyler and Jacob, Sarah who married Jon and will hopefully add to my grandchildren in a couple of years, Cory who has promised to live close by forever (I can only hope), Jimmy who keeps me on my knees praying and Rachel who keeps me young and has no problem speaking the truth when I ask "Do I look fat in this?"
I am thankful for my husband, Ray who works hard to provide for a large family and puts up with a stubborn and strong-willed wife!
I am thankful for my parents who love me for who I am and through all the trouble I caused them growing up.
I am thankful for my sister and brother whom I love dearly and for the many friends that God has put in my life through the years.
And last but not least I love my black lab "Lucy" because she acts so happy to see me even when I put her outside and let her back in 20 minutes later. Gotta love a lab!
What is your favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table?
Submitted by Kadeeae.
My favorite dish is the homemade cranberry relish that my mom always makes. It is apples, oranges and cranberries ground up in a meat grinder, sugar added to make it sweet and red food coloring to make it pleasing to the eye. It is yummy and it just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it.
